The Spirit of Tasmania

For several years, Scott held a performing residency aboard the Spirit of Tasmania, entertaining passengers crossing Bass Strait with songs and stories inspired by the island. It's the kind of gig that sharpens a live performer — reading a new room every crossing, playing for everyone from families to interstate travellers to people who'd never heard a live acoustic set in their lives.

Before going solo, Scott played guitar with The Sheyana Band — one of Tasmania's most acclaimed roots and soul acts, winners of the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society's Emerging Act of the Year — and was a member of Pale Riders, the Tasmanian roots band who formed on the north-west coast, relocated to Sydney and went on to release three albums and two EPs at the forefront of Australia's emerging roots scene in the nineties. Their back catalogue is available through Riversong Music.

Scott brought his own original Tasmanian material to every Spirit crossing, acting as an informal ambassador for the island and for Penguin in particular. It's a credential few Tasmanian performers can claim.
